The thing about sneaker culture is that there’s always some hot new style that’s about to hit shelves. Then again, there’s nothing like an old favorite to remind you why you got into this game to begin with. Just look to the legion of celebrities who have been making the case for the return of the retro trainer, for example—the Adidas Gazelle is arguably the unofficial MVP of the bunch. Emma Roberts recently took the trend for a test run at the airport, and now it seems Brie Larson is following in her footsteps. When the actress touched down in Japan earlier today, she put a decidedly polished spin on sporty travel style.

Larson laced into classic black-and-white kicks rendered in cool suede, extending the monochromatic palette of her ensemble. We like that she wore her faded skinnies short enough to reveal matching solid ankle socks, which lent her look a skater vibe. Larson offset the streetwise undertones with a tailored coat by Smythe that had an unexpected feminine bow detail at the pocket. She piled on extra polish in the form of Gucci’s Dionysus hobo, which came complete with a whimsical tiger head embroidery and a detachable shoulder strap reminiscent of men’s suspenders. But as every frequent flier knows, the most essential carry-on item is a pair of classic sunglasses—and Larson took that principle to the next level with Sunday Somewhere frames in a contrasting tortoiseshell finish.
