Bridgeton shooting injures five amid reports of 100 vehicles being recklessly driven

BRIDGETON, Mo. – Five people were injured Saturday evening after shots were fired at Bridgeton police, who had responded to reports of reckless driving on Highway 141.

According to Officer Scott Stephens, a spokesman for the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, Bridgeton police responded to Highway 141/Earth City Expressway and Corporate Woods Drive around 8:30 p.m. after receiving word of approximately 100 vehicles recklessly driving on the highway.

Law enforcement claims that when officers arrived, the vehicles attempted to flee, and several shots were fired at officers.

At least five people were injured, with one person rushed to the hospital in critical condition. No officers were injured. The full scope of the injuries was not disclosed.

Bridgeton police requested the Major Case Squad assist in the investigation.
