Watch moment Bridgerton's Luke Newton admits he stole item from Netflix set

Bridgerton's Luke Newton stole his character Colin's ring from the Netflix set as a keepsake.

This season, the actor takes centre stage as his character Colin falls in love with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Bridgerton fans have been waiting so long for this storyline to blossom and they have affectionately labelled the couple's romance "Polin".

Cheekily Newton, 31, admitted he once took a ring that he wears in the show as part of Colin's costume. The leading star made the confession on Lorraine in a pre-recorded interview that aired on Wednesday ahead of the third season being released on Thursday. However, the TV heartthrob revealed it sparked concern on the Netflix set and he had no choice but to own up to it and apologise.

Asked whether Newton had tried to take from something on set, he didn't try to hide his secret. He admitted openly: "I had."

Newton then shared what had caught his eye that he decided he would like to keep to remember the hit show. "A ring that Colin wore," he said. "I tried to take the ring."

His cheeky antics didn't go unnoticed on the Bridgerton set and there was concern on set that the ring had gone missing. "Immediately I got a message," he confessed. It was at this point that Newton had to confess the ring was on his person the whole time. Then the ring was immediately picked up, despite his hopes of being able to keep the item of jewellery.

The actor said TV bosses explained to him why he couldn't keep the ring and that it was needed for future seasons. "For the future of the show, they needed that all contained," he added.

Elsewhere in the interview airing on Lorraine, Newton has teased his character's transformation in Bridgerton season three. He said: "Comes back to the Ton, he’s grown up, he’s had this wild experience abroad. Changed his fashion and look. Comes back very grown up, he’s ready to take on the Ton."

The TV hero said the support for his on-screen romance had been "overwhelmed" when grilled over the pressures from the fan base. He said: "I think the support for Colin and Pen as a couple is so overwhelming. We’ve really felt that warmth from fans. We cant wait to share this big secret that we’ve had to keep for a long time."

Newton shared how his bond with Coughlan off-screen helped their steamy sex scenes in Bridgerton. "It was nice me and Nicola had build a friendship over years," he said. "Any feeling of you're going to be really exposed in that moment, it's nice to have that support as a friend." But that also comes with it's own set of complications. "It makes it slightly weird as well," he admitted.

Coughlan had asked for a PG version for her parents and Newton was board with the idea too. "I don't want my nan watching those scenes!" He agreed.

Hilariously, Jonathan Bailey revealed he once accidentally wore an item from the Bridgerton set to the pub and he was left horrified. His character Anthony's love story was the main focus of season two and he was involved in filming intimate scenes - meaning he needed a modesty thong. After work, he once forgot to take it off.

Bailey told the Los Angeles Times in 2022: "I was so appalled at myself over the day that we had experienced and so confused, because you can’t really explain it to anyone. I went to a pub that night and had a pint with my mates.

"When I got up to get the second round, I was like, ‘I’m chafing a bit.’ And I realised I still had my modesty thong on, because I was so traumatised and I ran so quickly from set that I hadn’t even taken off my little pouch. I still have it to this day.”

Watch Lorraine on week days at 9pm on ITVX.
