Watch a bridge explode in a matter of seconds
For a moment this weekend, Cleveland literally rocked — and it had nothing to do with LeBron.
A 54-year-old bridge was demolished in a controlled explosion early Saturday, as crews detonated the nearly mile-long I-90 Innerbelt Bridge.
The 128-foot-tall, 116-foot-wide, 5,078-foot-long structure was gone in a matter of seconds.
According to WKYC-TV, demolition of the bridge began in January and is expected to be completed later this summer.
When it opened in 1959, the eight-lane bridge was the widest in Ohio, connecting downtown Cleveland with the greater Cuyahoga River Valley. The Ohio Department of Transportation is in the process of replacing it with two new structures, the second of which will be completed in late 2016.
