Brian Wilson, beardless, reunites with Giants for surprise first pitch after falling out with CEO

San Francisco Giants fans were treated to a surprise blast from the past for the team’s home opener on Tuesday.

Former closer Brian Wilson, who reportedly had a falling out with the team after an on-field confrontation with CEO Larry Baer in 2013 over a World Series ring, took the field to throw out the first pitch to former battery mate Buster Posey.

And he did it sans beard.

Wilson walked to the mound in front of a packed, loud AT&T Park crowd to House of Pain’s “Jump Around” in full uniform before throwing a strike to Posey. It was a pretty cool moment on the Giants’ 60th anniversary home opener.

Wilson told NBC Bay Area that Baer played an important role in arranging for his first visit to AT&T Park since 2014 and that the dustup over the World Series ring was overblown.

“I guess what people saw was it was some argument, but it wasn’t,” Wilson said. “It was just a conversation … we’re good.”

As for the beard? Wilson told NBC Bay Area he shaved it a year ago.

“It wasn’t like a big deal,” he said. “It was a big deal because I was like, ‘holy crap, that’s my face.'”
