Brian Austin Green on How He and Megan Fox Make Their Marriage Last: 'We Stick It Out'
Brian Austin Green has won the lottery when it comes to his wife of 13 years, Megan Fox — and he knows it.
“I think what makes her great is she says what she means, she’s not afraid of anyone, she’s opinionated and badass,” the actor told reporters at the Women’s Choice Awards on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, adding that she inspires him to teach their kids about the importance of women’s rights.
“She sticks to what she thinks. I have four boys at home, and I feel like it’s my job to help them understand that we are all equal,” he explained. “Especially during this time with this administration. That anyone can accomplish anything. It doesn’t matter what sex you are.”
Green, 43, and Fox, 31, have had their fair share of ups and downs. In August 2015, five years into their marriage, Fox filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. The two then announced that they were having a third child together — and reconciled the following year.
As for how they make their marriage last?
“I don’t know what the secret is. Just stick it out. Like fighting and making up, believing in each other,” he said. “I’ve dated people before and you kind of get to that point where you go, ‘You know what, I don’t feel the same way,’ and I’ve never reached that with her.”
He added: “I mean we fight, we disagree on things. But I don’t want to go anywhere and she doesn’t, you know? So we stick it out.”
The occasional date night also helps, even though the actor admitted that they don’t go on as many as they would want to. After all, they’ve got a full house to nurture: The couple have three sons together — Noah, 4, Bodhi, 3, and 9-month-old Journey— and Green has a 15-year-old son, Kassius, from a previous relationship.
Green marvels at how quickly they grow up. “My oldest is 15 now and [he’s] someone I have to buy a car for soon,” he said. “It’s so terrifying. He’s going to be driving. ”

And like any protective father, Green hopes that he’s prepared Kassius to be more alert — both on the road and off. “I taught him everything I can at this point. Like, watch the road, be defensive … I mean what do you say? How do you prepare them for that,” he explained. “You just have to hope that there’s enough upstairs that you’ll figure it out, you won’t die. So I have to push him out of the nest and hope for the best.”
As for his younger boys, well … things can get pretty rambunctious. “They love the 9-month-old,” he said — but it’s not all fun and games. “Noah and Bodhi fight all the time. They hit each other and cry and complain. Hate each other and say, ‘I’ll never play with you again.’ And then play with each other five minutes later. It’s up and down.”
He also joked about how his wife is outnumbered in a household full of males. So does the couple have any plans to try for a girl? Green is staying mum.
“That was the plan and I have four boys,” he quipped. “So it’s not working for me. I don’t know, we’ve talked about it. I’ll leave it at that.”
