CSFD update on grass fires in east Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Fire agencies are currently working to contain a grass fire that started near Marksheffel and Drennan Road on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD), the fire has scorched over 500 acres according to initial estimates, resulting in the loss of one abandoned building. Crews have established a perimeter around the fire, which is gradually moving eastward. They will work through the night on the interior of the fire and search for any remaining hotspots.

There is a road closure on Marksheffel between Space Village Avenue and Drennan Road.

The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) is responding to a grass fire near Marksheffel Road and Drennan Road.

CSFD said smoke is visible from some parts of the city. At least four grass fires are burning, and Marksheffel is closed in both directions. Fire officials are asking people to avoid the area.

Ellicott and Cheyenne Mountain are assisting with resources, including water tenders and brush trucks, according to CSFD’s X (Twitter) feed.
