Brazilian president finally condemns Russian invasion of Ukraine

The comments came after da Silva's meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Brazil on June 1.

Previously, the Brazilian president had avoided taking sides in the conflict and had expressed his desire to remain neutral. However, da Silva recently had a phone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and declined an invitation to visit Russia.

In late April, Lula da Silva declared the “uselessness of finding the guilty” in Russia’s war against Ukraine and the need for negotiations. He also said that it is Ukraine and Russia that must resolve the issue of Crimea’s “ownership.”
