Brawl with at least a dozen people ends in gunfire

SOLON, Ohio (WJW) — A Tuesday evening brawl involving about a dozen people ended in gunfire, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired just before 5 p.m. at Solon Park Apartments along Park North Drive. Witnesses reported a large group of people were fighting outside and that they heard what sounded like gunshots.

Investigators learned the fight started as a domestic dispute between a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman who lived at the apartments. The two called people they knew to intervene.

“As the rival groups arrived on scene, a physical fight broke out, involving 12 to 15 people, according to witness accounts,” reads the release. “The fight broke up after a gun was fired during the fracas.”

Police officers detained five people from the apartments, and interviewed them at the police department. A 29-year-old Euclid man admitted to firing a weapon “into the air.” He was treated at a local hospital for a possible head injury.

Everyone who was detained was later released without charges.

Officers also stopped three vehicles spotted leaving the scene. From one of those vehicles, they arrested a 22-year-old Cleveland man on an outstanding warrant for a felonious assault charge. Five other adults were released.

No injuries or property damage from gunfire were reported. Several people believed to have been involved in the fight appeared disheveled or had superficial injuries, according to the report. They all refused treatment.

Officers recovered four shell casings outside the apartment building, as well as five firearms from one of the apartments.
