Braves draft pick sees childhood dream come true after wishing to play for team at 6 years old

Being drafted to play for a professional sports team is the epitome of the American dream come true.

For Greg Cullen, his dream was prescient.

The Atlanta Braves selected the Niagara shortstop on Wednesday in the 15th round of the MLB draft.

Braves pick said he wanted to play for Atlanta when he was a kid

Shortly after he was drafted, his girlfriend Sara Thomas shared this childhood “about me” page Cullen filled out when he was six years old.

In case you can’t see it, that reads: “When I grow up I want to be a professional baseball player (Atlanta Braves or Toronto Blue Jays).”

That’s pretty cool. When asked, a lot of kids have said they wanted to be baseball players when they grow up. Surely many of the players that make it to the level of being drafted by an MLB team gave that answer.

But to be drafted by the actual team you were a childhood fan of is next level.

“I am so proud of him and couldn’t be more excited about him getting drafted to the Braves,” Thomas told Yahoo Sports.” He has worked so hard and spent countless hours preparing for this day.”

Braves nab college baseball’s best hitter

Cullen was college baseball’s best hitter last season, sporting a .458 batting average for the Purple Eagles while earning MAAC player of the year honors.

“It has been pretty surreal,” Cullen told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle. “I’ve been getting a lot of texts and phone calls.”

Surreal, indeed.
