Brad Wing is going to be with the Giants for the foreseeable future. A contract extension between the team and the punter was announced on Monday.

The financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the deal will keep Wing with the Giants through the 2019 season. Rapoport also reported that Wing will be paid $6.45 million for the duration of the extension, including $3.725 million in guaranteed money with a $2 million signing bonus.

Wing made $510,000 last season and was originally scheduled to make $600,000 this upcoming season.

Wing, a native of Melbourne, Australia, was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a trade for a seventh round pick before the start of the 2015 season. Wing’s predecessor, Steve Weatherford, was released once Wing was acquired.

Wing was seen as a cheaper alternative to Weatherford, who had been the Giants’ punter when they defeated the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. Weatherford, known for his uncommon strength and physique for a punter, received the franchise tag in 2011. He signed a five-year, $12.75 million contract in 2012.

In 2015, Wing had a gross yard average of 44.5 yards and a net yard average of 38.9 yards on 76 attempts. Those numbers are hardly earth shattering. However, 33 of Wing’s punts were placed inside the 20-yard line. Wing was ranked fifth in the NFL in that category as more than 43 percent of his punts were inside the 20. Of the four punters ahead of Wing, only one had fewer attempts. Wing also had 10 touchbacks.

The previous season, Wing punted 61 times for the Steelers. He had a gross yard average of 43.7 and a net yard average of 38.8 with 20 punts inside the 20 and four touchbacks.

Wing, who was a teammate of Odell Beckham, Jr. at LSU, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He was waived at the end of training camp and signed with the Steelers in the 2014 offseason.
