Brad Pitt wins his 1st ever Oscar for acting
It's official: Brad Pitt has finally won an Oscar for acting.
The Academy Awards on Sunday kicked off with Pitt winning Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood. Throughout awards season, he maintained his position as frontrunner in this category, and he previously won at the Golden Globe Awards, Critics' Choice Movie Awards, British Academy Film Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
"They told me I have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week," Pitt said. He added that Quentin Tarantino might need to make a movie about President Trump's impeachment trial in which "in the end, the adults do the right thing."
Pitt beat out Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci for the Oscar. This was Pitt's fourth nomination for acting and his first win. He previously was nominated for 12 Monkeys in 1996, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2009, and Moneyball in 2012. He won his first Oscar as a producer of 12 Years a Slave in 2014, but this was his first win for a performance.
Throughout awards season, Pitt had been delivering consistently memorable speeches, joking at the Screen Actors Guild Awards that he was going to "add this to my Tinder profile" and at the British Academy Film Awards having his co-star Margot Robbie read a speech on his behalf joking, "Hey Britain. Heard you just became single. Welcome to the club."
