Boyfriend arrested after deadly stabbing in Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A 28-year-old woman was killed in a Friday evening stabbing in Battle Creek, and her boyfriend has been arrested, police say.

Around 11:30 p.m., officers with the Battle Creek Police Department were sent to West Pitman Avenue near East Avenue N after receiving reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Responding officers found the victim, later identified as 28-year-old Morgan Schug. They attempted life-saving measures, but she died at the scene.

Several adults and a few children were at the home. The police department said that one person was taken to the hospital for assault injuries. Their condition has not been released.

While officers were heading to the scene, they found a man running near the intersection of East Emmett Street and North Wabash Avenue with blood on his hands. The police department said that some of the officers stopped to check on him and learned that he was Schug’s boyfriend.

The 33-year-old Battle Creek man was arrested and taken to the hospital for injuries, the police department said. He is being held on an open murder charge.

Police say that the man did not live at Schug’s home and they had no children together.

The stabbing remains under investigation.
