RIVERSIDE, Calif. - A 10-year-old boy told police that he figured that if he killed his neo-Nazi father, he might not get in trouble because that's what happened on a television program.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports that in a videotaped police interview played at the boy's murder trial Wednesday, the boy says that in the episode of "Criminal Minds" a kid shot his abusive father and because he tells the truth about why he shot him, the cops don't arrest him.
He says he thought the same thing would happen to him.
The boy, now 12, is accused of shooting Jeff Hall in the head while he slept on a sofa in their home.
The boy says in the video that he was scared and angry about his father's rage and threats.
If a judge finds the boy murdered his father, he could be jailed until he is 23. The Associated Press is not identifying the boy because he is a juvenile.
