Boy made bomb threats against schools in Maryland, other states, Montgomery County police say

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) — Months after a high school in Rockville received a bomb threat, police said a boy faces charges in connection to the incident as well as similar ones in other states.

The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCDP) said Friday that the threat against Wootton High School took place on Nov. 27, 2023.

Investigators said the boy called the school around 8 a.m. and said that there were bombs placed inside specific areas of the building.

Police helped students and faculty members evacuate the school. K-9 units and other officers searched the building and found nothing.

MCDP said officers from its Behavioral Assessment and Administrative Unit talked to witnesses, gathered information and evidence, and carried out search warrants that led them to the boy now charged. Police said the investigation found that he also made bomb threats against schools in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Missouri. and Howard County, Md.

Police said the charges against the boy in Montgomery County included Threat of Violence and Telephone Misuse. The police department said the boy faces charges in other states.
