Boy, 13, arrested on hate crime charges after person beat with pipe in Brooklyn: NYPD

WILLIAMSBURG, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A 13-year-old boy is facing hate crime charges after a person was beaten with a metal pipe during an anti-LGBTQIA+ attack in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.

The boy was arrested and charged with hate crime assault, hate crime aggravated harassment and criminal possession of a weapon.

The victim, who is gender non-conforming, was sitting on the steps of their home in Williamsburg around 3 p.m. on May 13 when they were approached by two suspects, according to authorities.

They allegedly made anti-LGBTQIA+ remarks toward the victim. The suspects then picked up a metal pipe and struck the victim in the head, police said.

The victim suffered from bruising to their head. Police have not confirmed if the second suspect was also apprehended.
