- Mexico's Jhonny Gonzalez defends his World Boxing Council featherweight title for the third time Saturday against American southpaw Gary Russell Jnr, hoping for more success at US venues. Gonzalez first won the crown in 2011 at Atlantic City and defended it three times before an accidental head-butt brought an eighth-round end and a loss in his 2012 fight with Daniel Ponce de Leon at Las Vegas. Gonzalez bounced back and in 2013 reclaimed the crown with a victory over compatriot Abner Mares at Los Angeles. Now after two successful title defenses in Mexico, Gonzalez is back in Las Vegas seeking his sixth win in a row with a new rival trying to dethrone him. "I'm very excited to be back in the United States," said Gonzalez. "Every time I've fought on American soil, it has been career-changing for me. Now I'm back and once again I'm facing a tough opponent."
