Both driver, passenger dead in Fresno County crash

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Both the driver and the passenger in a Ford Focus that was hit by a truck in Fresno County on Monday have died, according to a Tuesday morning update from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

According to CHP, officers responded to a traffic collision in the area of Buttonwillow and Parlier Avenues in Fresno County at around 3:30 p.m.

According to officers, a Ford truck going northbound at a no-stop intersection collided with a Ford Focus that was traveling eastbound with a stop sign. Officers say the Ford Focus failed to stop at the intersection, causing the truck to collide with the passenger side until coming to a stop on the northeast corner of the intersection.

CHP says as a result of the collision, the male passenger traveling in the Ford Focus did not survive. The driver of the Ford Focus was sent to the hospital where she was initially listed as being in critical condition – but she later died of her injuries. The driver of the truck, a 54-year-old man, did not report any injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation. Officers say alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected at this time to be a factor in this collision.
