Boonsboro Vol. FD assists in horse rescue in Moneta

MONETA, Va. (WFXR)– The Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Department helped rescue a Horseshoe Bend Road in Moneta on Sunday, April 28.

According to the fire department, crews responded at 11:17 a.m. to the 3600-block of Horseshoe Rd. with the large animal rescue trailer for a horse down in a stall and unable to get up. Crews immediately assisted in getting the downed horse out of its stall inside a barn.

After the horse was out, crews set up a crane to lift the horse and work to get the horse outside of its barn. The horse was cast on the left side and put onto a glide. Crews then rolled the horse onto its other side to ensure its positioning in the lift slings before the roll.

The horse was moved outside and crews used a spreader bar to lift the horse off its feet. Crews gave the horse some time for restimulation and gave it water to help cool it from overheating.

The fire department says about 10 minutes later, the horse was able to stand and the system was removed.
