MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Bishop State Community College will host a conversation and book-signing featuring Dr. Willie H. Clemons and U.S. Congressman Sanford Bishop, Jr.

According to a press release, the event is scheduled for Friday, May 3, from noon to 2 p.m. at Bishop State Community College.

Dr. Willie H. Clemons is “an accomplished access broker with vision, experience and relationships to honor and support the mission of institutions and organizations,” according to his website.

His book, “This Is My Story, This Is My Song…” is about “the challenges he faced during the Jim Crow era in Alabama and how he turned those challenges into opportunities.”

Congressman Sanford Bishop, Jr. is currently serving his 16th term in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Georgia’s Second Congressional District, according to his biography.

Bishop shared the following statement about Dr. Clemons’s book, which is seen on Dr. Clemons’s website:

“From his first ones in Mobile, Alabama to those in Atlanta and ultimately to Sarasota, Florida, the steps of Dr. Willie Clemons have been ordered by God. And through his remarkable life journey, he was molded and shaped by historic change-makers who inspired his purpose-driven life for the betterment of others.

“These pages document for generations yet to come, the story of how an ordinary soul can make an extraordinary impact across the space he travels in this life.”

Aside from the features of Clemons and Bishop the event will feature a “special tribute” to Dr. Sanford Bishop, Sr., the founding president of Bishop State Community College, according to the release.
