It’s one of the most famous structures in the world, a painstakingly crafted golden nest seen by millions every day.

But now a new book has revealed the secrets of how Donald Trump’s lovingly crafted combover actually works.

Author Michael Wolff claims in Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House that Trump’s daughter Ivanka frequently spilled the beans to friends on the secrets of the unusual haircut.

Trump’s head, she says, is a ‘furry circle’ with a section of bald pate in the middle (left after scalp-reduction surgery), and that the President sweeps his hair up to cover the bald bit.

Wolff writes: ‘She often described the mechanics behind it to friends: an absolutely clean pate – a contained island after scalp-reduction surgery – surrounded by a furry circle of hair around the sides and front, from which all ends are drawn up to meet in the center and then swept back and secured by a stiffening spray.’

Wolff’s bombshell book also claims that the orange tinge to the presidential barnet is due to anti-grey preparations, which give Trump’s hair its distinctive flame-coloured hue.

Trump has defended his hair against accusations of fakery on numerous occasions – challenging people to touch it, and saying, ‘I do not wear a rug. My hair is one hundred percent mine.’

The President’s long-time doctor Harold Bornstein says that Trump takes finasteride – a drug which is used to treat hair loss in men.

Dr Bornstein told the New York Times that the drug works – and that he uses it himself.

He said, ‘He has all his hair. I have all my hair.’

Dr Bornstein came to public attention in 2015, with a well-publicised letter in which he said: ‘If elected, Mr Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.’
