Bond increased for shooting suspect

Editor's Note: Merzilas Braboy received a Certificate of Pardon from the State of Connecticut Board of Pardons and Paroles on Sept. 1, 2021. He was pardoned on the four charges stemming from this incident.

Judge Susan B. Handy on Thursday increased bond by $180,000 for the man charged in a shooting outside The Wauregan in Norwich. Merzilas Braboy, 18, was taken into custody after Handy accepted the state’s motion for bond modification. Prosecutors previously had expressed concern that the unemployed Braboy had managed to post a total of $385,000 in bonds on four pending criminal cases, including a drug-related arrest.He is scheduled to appear again today in New London Superior Court.
