Bomb threat at Derby Walmart evacuates store

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A bomb threat at the Derby Walmart forced an evacuation of the store Friday night.

The call came in shortly before 10 p.m. at 2020 Nelson Dr. Sgt. Ryan Mumma with the Derby Police Department says an employee received a call from someone claiming there was a bomb in the back bathroom.

“When officers arrived, they’ve already cleared the store of all employees and customers,” said Mumma at the scene. “We called our on-call people, did a protective sweep of the building, didn’t find any type of device or a threat.”

Sgt. Mumma says the store had already received several prank calls earlier in the day, but they can’t say yet if the threat was connected. He says they do have the telephone number that the calls appeared to come from and are investigating. No arrests have been made.
