Bomb attack on coalition base in south Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghan officials say a suicide car bomb has hit a coalition base in southern Afghanistan and there are no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Jawed Faisal, a spokesman for the governor of eastern Kandahar, said the attack took place Monday against a base in Zhari district.

He says there are no immediate reports of any casualties.

Zhari is located west of Kandahar city.

The U.S.-led International Security Assistance Force said it had reports of a suicide car bombing against one of its bases in southern Afghanistan and was investigating.

The Taliban have intensified a campaign against Afghan and international forces as foreign troops withdraw this year.

The southern province of Kandahar is the birthplace of the Taliban.
