Bollywood movies which recreated the iconic DDLJ train sequence

Trains and Bollywood have an enviable, never-ending relationship. Any movie which has a romantic, dramatic or thrilling train sequence is expected to be a sure-shot hit with the audience. One such iconic train sequence was in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), where in the last scene of the movie, Simran (Kajol) is running behind the moving train, extending her hand, and Raj (Shahrukh Khan) grabs her hand and gets her onto the train with him, and they live happily ever after!

Here are other Bollywood movies which took inspiration from the DDLJ train scene, or even better, recreated it in their own way!

Jab We Met: This movie was a sleeper hit, and director Imtiaz Ali had even said in an interview how he was inspired by Aditya Chopra’s DDLJ before he started shooting for this film. In a scene in this movie, when Aditya (Shahid Kapoor) and Geet (Kareena Kapoor) reunite, Aditya quickly climbs on a train and extends his hand to Geet, reminding us of DDLJ.

Chennai Express: The opening scene of the Rohit Shetty movie was a nostalgic moment not just for fans, but for Rahul (Shahrukh Khan) as well, as he recreated the old scene from his own superhit movie, only this time with another actress. Rahul helps Meena (Deepika Padukone) get onto the train, but later also ends up helping the goons who have kidnapped her.

Half Girlfriend: The latest movie to have recreated the DDLJ train scene is Mohit Suri’s Half Girlfriend, which is a cinematic adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s book by the same name. However, filmmakers have added their own little twist to the plot as it is Riya (Shraddha Kapoor) who is on the Mumbai local and Madhav (Arjun Kapoor) running behind her as the train is moving. What’s more? We don’t see Riya extending her hand to Madhav!
