Boil water notice issued for Chilhowie after waterline break

CHILHOWIE, Va. (WJHL) — The Town of Chilhowie Water System, the Virginia Department of Health and the Smyth Co. Health Department have issued a boil water advisory for Chilhowie residents due to a waterline break.

The break came after a contractor bored into a main line in upper Mill Creek, according to a release from the Town of Chilhowie.

Residents are advised to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution. Affected areas include Wet Springs Road, Riverside, Chestnut Ridge, Shuler Hollow Area and St. Clair’s Creek.

The release suggests bringing tap water to a rolling boil and letting it boil for one minute. Let the water cool before drinking or using.

This advisory will be in effect until further notice, per the release.
