Boil water advisory in Kalamazoo starting Wednesday

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A portion of Kalamazoo will be under a boil water advisory as the city constructs new water infrastructure in the area.

Starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday, the city will shut off water in the area, and the following areas will be placed under a boil water advisory:

  • Duke Street from Whites Road to Fairview Avenue, both sides of the road, including 753 Fairview Ave.

  • Garland Avenue from Duke Street to Garland Circle, both sides of the road.

Kalamazoo released a map of the affected area.

Everyone in the affected area should boil their water for two minutes before consuming it. It’s safe to bathe in the water without boiling it.

The water shut-off causes a drop in pressure, which can allow bacteria to enter the system. The boil water advisory is precautionary.

The city expects the boil water advisory to be lifted by June 1.
