Bogalusa hospital earns high grade in safety for second year

BOGALUSA, La. (WGNO) — A Washington Parish hospital has been recognized by The Leapfrog Group for receiving an “A” grade for hospital safety.

Leaders with Our Lady of the Angels Hospital this is the second consecutive year the hospital has received a high grade.

“Our Lady of the Angels Hospital is proud to once again receive this prestigious recognition from The Leapfrog Group,” said hospital president Chuck Spicer.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit watchdog organization that assigns grades “A” through “F” to hospitals throughout the country based on over 30 measures of:

  • Errors

  • Accidents

  • Injuries

  • Infections and hospital systems used to prevent infections

The nonprofit’s Hospital Safety Grade is the only rating program that focuses exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally.

“It reflects our ongoing efforts to prioritize patient safety and quality outcomes in all aspects of our operations,” said Spicer.

President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group Leah Binder says that everyone who works at the Bogalusa Hospital should be proud grade.

“It takes complete dedication of at every level and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Our Lady of the Angels, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety,” said Binder.
