Boeing Truck Drivers Show Off the Art of Lugging Aviation Equipment

From Popular Mechanics

Aviation pioneers like Joe Sutter helped cement the Pacific Northwest as a hotbed of aviation, and the Boeing Company, now based out of Chicago, has helped keep it that way. Founded in 1916 in Seattle, Boeing's presence is well known, thanks in part to the company's constant shipping.

But when you're dealing with massive loads or airplane parts, shipping can almost become an art form. Boeing's released a video showing what it takes to make those tricky daily trips.

Companies like Otto think self-driving trucks could someday do that same work as truck drivers just as efficiently. In fact, testing last year showed that self-driving trucks could make a journey of 1,000 miles with only minimal help. Of course, millions of dollars worth of aviation equipment is quite a big bet on nascent autonomous technology. For now, robots can't quite perform this automotive "ballet."
