Body washes ashore from Manasquan Inlet amid search for missing boater
POINT PLEASANT BEACH - A body washed ashore here from the Manasquan Inlet Saturday afternoon, amid a search for a boater missing for more than a week, authorities said.
It could not be confirmed Saturday night if the body was that of Derek Narby, the 21-year-old Brick man who has been missing since the boat he was riding in capsized in the Manasquan Inlet on Sept. 14.
The body was recovered around 2:45 p.m. in Point Pleasant Beach from the Manasquan Inlet, authorities said. A State Police spokesman said troopers were dispatched to Channel Drive, near where the body was found.
Narby has been the subject of marine searches since the 31-foot boat, called the Kaboom, capsized when it was struck by a wave during rough seas from Hurricane Lee. The vessel broke apart, with parts of the boat washing ashore as far south as Seaside Heights.

Narby's father and brother were on the boat and were rescued from the inlet while clinging to a cooler.
A makeshift memorial to Narby, with messages, candles and flowers, has been erected on on the Point Pleasant Beach side of the Manasquan Inlet since his disappearance. A GofundMe page also has been set up to raise money for the missing man's family.
