Body pulled from water near Sandy Island identified as local man

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The body of a 63-year-old man was recovered from the water near Sandy Island on Sunday afternoon, Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway said on Monday.

Ridgeway said an autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death for Irvin Weathers, of Sandy Island.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday authorities responded to reports of a body in a river about 3:45 p.m. Crews were assisted by Midway Fire Rescue, the state Department of Natural Resources and Georgetown County Coroner’s Office.
