(FOX40.COM) — The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said it has found the woman who went missing in the San Joaquin River on Thursday.

“The SCSO can announce we have recovered the remains of missing person Brenda Duran in the SJ River outside of Newman,” the agency said on X. “Our thoughts & prayers are with the Duran Family as they mourn the loss of their loved one.”

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Duran was believed to have been watching her kids play in the San Joaquin River when her 11-year-old daughter began to struggle in the water.

After jumping into the water to help her daughter, the mother also began to struggle, deputies said. Her 14-year-old son then jumped in the water to help his family.

The 14-year-old was able to get out of the water with his sister, according to deputies, but his mother was reported missing once the children made it to shore.

On Friday, the woman was officially identified as 30-year-old Brenda Duran.

The search continued for three days before Duran’s body was recovered on Saturday around 5:30 p.m. by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
