Body found in Battle Creek house fire identified

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A body found in a home after a house fire has been identified by the Battle Creek Fire Department.

Courtney Rose Wareham, 45, died in the fire, according to both police and fire departments of Battle Creek. She lived at the home. A cat was also found dead, firefighters said.

The fire happened in the early hours of March 11 at a home on 22nd Street near 23rd Street in Battle Creek. Firefighters put out the fire and initially said there was no one in the home. The next day, fire inspectors found Wareham’s body inside one of the bedrooms.

It’s not clear what caused the fire but Michigan State Police investigators said they do not suspect foul play.
