Bobcats C Jefferson has ankle sprain

Charlotte Bobcats center Al Jefferson sprained his right ankle during Friday's preseason game against the Miami Heat.

After Jefferson was helped off the court, it was initially reported that he sustained a knee injury. The team later announced it was an ankle sprain.

Jefferson, 28, has had knee problems in the past. He tore a meniscus his rookie season and his right ACL during the 2008-09 season.

Jefferson, coming off a 2012-13 season in which he averaged 17.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game with the Utah Jazz, signed a three-year, $41 million deal with the Bobcats in the offseason.
