State University of New York board votes to close cash-strapped Long Island College Hospital
NEW YORK (AP) -- The board of trustees of the State University of New York has again voted to close down a financially strapped Brooklyn hospital.
Tuesday's re-vote by the board to close down Long Island College Hospital must next be approved by the state Health Department. It could take up to 90 days to complete closing down the hospital.
The hospital is run by SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
Last week, a state Supreme Court judge in Brooklyn deferred the closing of the hospital, saying SUNY trustees violated the state's Open Meetings Law by holding a private committee meeting the day before a public vote in February.
