BMW to make a new diesel engine with four turbochargers

Known for making some of the most spectacular production engines including a tri-turbo diesel engine, BMW is about to take things forward with a quad-turbo engine. The brand recently made an announcement that it will start making a 394bhp diesel engine featuring four turbochargers.
The 3-litre quad-turbo unit will first arrive in the latest-gen 7 Series, particularly in a variant called the 750d xDrive. It gets two low-pressure and two high-pressure turbos, all together helping the engine develop 394bhp and as much as 760Nm of torque.
The massively torquey engine will be paired to the familiar 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Thanks to all that pulling power, the 750d xDrive can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 4.5 seconds.
Following its debut in the 7 Series, BMW is likely to offer this quad-turbo unit in smaller models including the 5 Series.
