BMW Launches Its Own Flagship 4-Door Coupe in Geneva in the Form of the Concept M8 Gran Coupe

BMW this week unveiled its Concept M8 Gran Coupe that it describes as an “ultra-sporty, polarizing extrovert” at the 2018 Geneva International Motor Show. The newest “exotic and alluring” 4-door Coupe Concept, that is actually a sedan, in BMW’s 8 Series, has been executed to stir things up with emotion, according to BMW design executives. The production version is slated to arrive at dealerships as a 2020 model in the summer of 2019.

BMW officials also state that the 8 Series, which is being revitalized, has become BMW’s flagship model, and the M letter in the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe actually stands for “more.” More in this case means a larger, more muscular and more powerful luxury sporty car with low-slung lines and stance with an overhanging sleek front end that illustrates BMW’s new design language that “removes luxury from any kind of comfort zone,” according to BMW design executives.

The BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe creates dynamic forward thrust with a low wide front end that includes a broader interpretation of BMW’s signature kidney radiator grilles with large air intake to cool a powerful engine. The car features a wider stance and bespoke bumpers, flares and indented body sills and rides on oversized wheels and tires. The four headlights are done in a warm yellow and the Concept is painted in an unusual “chromaflair” metallic green that shifts to blue when observed at different angles. The rear is addressed by a bold rear diffuser with four exhaust tips.

As far as power specs, the M8 Gran Coupe will be most likely be equipped with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that produces a 650 horsepower and 553 lb.-ft. of torque, when matched with an 8-speed automatic and new all-wheel Drive (AWD ) system that should help it rise from 0-62 mph in about 3 seconds. According to a BMW Blog, the Concept M8 Gran Coupe is a replacement for the old 6 Series, but with a much more modern design. It is based on BMW’s 7 Series sedan platform.
