BMW, Daimler, Ford, Audi and Porsche Team up to Build DC Charging Network

From Road & Track

Currently (no pun intended), there are three electric charging standards:

Tesla uses its Superchargers, the Japenese and the French use the CHAdeMO network while the rest of the manufacturers agreed to go with the Combined Charging System. The list of CCS users include the Volkswagen Group, General Motors, BMW, Daimler, Ford, FCA, Hyundai, Volvo and Jaguar Land Rover, and some of these manufacturers have decided to team up to give EV buyers the charging network they deserve.

The joint venture set up by BMW, Daimler, Ford, Audi and Porsche will deliver "a brand-independent network" with up to 400 locations set up in the next three years. These station's power levels will also reach up to 350 kW, which is significantly higher than Tesla's 120 kW system.

Soon enough, DC fast charging will make the "coffee break for recharging" dream a reality, and Europeans can give a high-five to BMW, Daimler, Ford, Audi and Porsche for speeding up the process on their way towards selling us as many battery electric vehicles as possible. What's brilliant is that our cities will have much cleaner air (and less noise) ten years from now.
