BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — On Tuesday, March 5, 2024 Bluefield State University announced it’s newest member to the BSU athletic staff.

Davon Morgan takes over as the newest head coach for the football team.

Coach Morgan might be a new face, but he is no stranger to football or coaching. He joins BSU with 13 years of coaching experience. Morgan was once a Virginia Tech football defensive captain before playing in the NFL for the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles.

When it comes to being a captain on the sidelines, Coach Morgan has some role models to mimic. During his time playing for the Hokies, Morgan played for Virginia Tech legends Frank Beamer and Bud Foster.

Coach Morgan said he’s excited for this opportunity and wants to revive the program. He says he hopes to put a new spark back into the culture.

Obviously I’ve done my research and I found out about the 1927, 2018 being back to back champions. I want to bring that culture back. I wanna bring that feel back. So I’m actually just looking forward to having a fresh start… This is the honeymoon phase right now and I’m ready to get the 2-3 months down the line so I can get this place whipped into shape like I want.
