Blue Suede Dinner raises money to help abused children

Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse and the Jackson Exchange Club teamed up on Saturday for its annual Blue Suede Dinner and Action at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

The Carl Perkins Civic Center was decorated to pay homage to the 1970s in honor of Fleetwood Mac, whom World Turning Band is a tribute to.

For a few hours, the venue was transformed into a scene from the 1960s and 70s as World Turning Band, a tribute band to Fleetwood Mac, performed for the audience.

The full capacity crowd frequently kept the dance floor full as they enjoyed tunes that took many of them back to their younger days during Fleetwood Mac’s time as a touring group until the mid-1990s.

The event is one of the center’s two largest fundraisers of the year along with the telethon that happens each fall.

This was the first time for the event to happen in two years as events were still canceled this time last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event raised a total of $415,365 according to center officials.
