Blue Jays-Royals game postponed after ice tears hole in Rogers Centre roof
A three-day ice storm has caused havoc in Toronto, forcing school closures, leaving thousands without power and creating traffic gridlock.
On Monday, baseball fell victim to the storm when ice fell from the city’s iconic CN Tower and tore a hole in the roof of the Rogers Centre, allowing snow to dump onto the field. The damage forced the Blue Jays to postpone their scheduled game with the Kansas City Royals.

The Blue Jays had fun with the storm on Twitter earlier on Monday, coyly announcing that the game would not be affected by the storm.
“Weather update: Due to our stadium having a roof, today’s game will be… played as expected,” the tweet read.
Well this is awkward.

The team had to quickly backtrack on that tweet after the damage to the stadium before eventually announcing that Monday’s game would not be played.
The game is scheduled to be made up Tuesday afternoon in a double-header with the Royals.
The storm created a scare for the Royals as well when a chunk of ice crashed into a team bus, shattering the windshield. The driver was cut, but there were no reports of serious injuries.
