Blue Bombers' Buzz and Boomer win mascot scavenger hunt

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers may not be winning many games these days but the team's mascots, Buzz and Boomer, won a special scavenger hunt on Thursday.

The scavenger hunt was held at the Polo Park Wal-Mart on Thursday morning, as part of a fundraiser for the Canadian Red Cross. Mascots from local teams, organizations and agencies showed off their abilities to prepare for a disaster.

In addition to Buzz and Boomer, competitors included Copper from the Winnipeg Police Service, Goldie from the Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team and Buckles the life-jacket, the Canadian Red Cross's mascot.

Teams raced around the store, collecting items to complete a disaster preparedness kit, in a limited amount of time.

The contest demonstrated the importance of having a kit ready before a disaster strikes and what items are important to have in case of an emergency.

Wal-Mart is aiming to raise $81,000 across Manitoba this month to support the Canadian Red Cross's disaster relief efforts in the province. The company will match all fund raised, up to $2,000 per store.
