Easter weekend 2017 in Philadelphia was already proving to be a bloody one before noon Sunday. At least 14 people were shot, two fatally, from 12:29 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Sunday, police said.
A quadruple shooting, a triple shooting, and a double shooting were among the violent incidents reported. A man also was shot inside an Old City nightclub, police said.
A 24-year-old woman did not survive being shot once in the chest and once in the buttocks around 1:20 a.m. Sunday on the 3200 block of F Street in Kensington, police said. She was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m.
Police did not immediately release her name or a possible motive or suspect in the case. Authorities said a small-caliber revolver was found at the shooting scene.
The weekend’s other homicide victim, a 23-year-old man whose identity also was not released, was shot in his head and torso around 3:06 p.m. Saturday on the 5500 block of Warrington Avenue in Kingsessing, according to police. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m.
Four young men, ages 16 to 18, were injured in a shooting on the 5900 block of Hammond Avenue in Olney at 12:29 a.m. Saturday, police said. All four survived and were in stable condition Sunday. The offender and motive in the case remained unidentified.
At 8:15 p.m. Saturday on the 2800 block of Hope Street in Fairhill, three men — ages 24 to 28 — were injured in a shooting. Two of the men, one of whom was shot five times and one of whom was shot twice, remained in critical condition Sunday, police said. The third victim was listed as stable. Police did not immediately identify a possible suspect or motive in the case.
At 10:58 a.m. Sunday, a 23-year-old man and a 63-year-old man were shot on the 5400 block of Chester Avenue in Kingsessing, police said. Both men were listed as stable. Police continued to search for a shooter.
Earlier Sunday, around 2:20 a.m., a man reported to police that he was inside the Roxxy nightclub on the 900 block of North Delaware Avenue when he heard gunfire and dropped to the floor. Police said the man was shot in his left leg but was able to walk to an officer stationed outside the club and report that he was shot.
The man was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was treated and released, but the bullet remained lodged in his leg, police said. Authorities did not immediately identify a suspect or motive in the shooting.
Also shot this weekend were a 37-year-old man who was hit in his left thigh on the 100 block of Hansberry Street in Germantown at 10:29 p.m. Saturday and a 19-year-old man who was hit in one finger at 9:02 a.m. Saturday on the 6200 block of West Girard Avenue in West Philadelphia. Both men were listed as stable.
