'Bloody Arrests' in Tbilisi as Police Clear Protesters Against Controversial Bill

Radio Free Europe reported “bloody arrests” being made in Tbilisi early on May 13, as Georgian police moved to clear protesters who had gathered overnight outside parliament against a so-called “foreign agents” bill.

Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs said 20 arrests were made, with two US citizens and one Russian among them, according to RFE.

The crowds were again rallying against a law that would require organizations receiving more than 20 percent of their funding from abroad to register as agents of foreign influence. Despite popular opposition, and criticism from the EU, for which Georgia is a candidate member, the legislation is expected to pass in coming days.
