Weather Reporter Interrupted on Live TV by Singing Telegram

Sure, singing telegrams are not as popular as they used to be. If you're looking to surprise someone, though, or just put the spotlight on him or her for a couple of minutes, look no further. If you really want to ramp up the shock, you can have a singing telegram delivered on live television. That's what happened to weather and traffic reporter Amy Aaronson of WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina.

After finishing the forecast and traffic report, Aaronson is visibly shocked as a loud voice is heard from offscreen. Then, "Captain Telegram," the man hired to sing her birthday wishes, bursts in front of camera with her and starts performing his routine. After about a minute of cringe-worthy birthday congratulations, the Captain escorts Aaronson off with a collection of balloons. Aaronson, who remains a pretty good sport throughout the encounter, returns and has a chat with the anchors.

Later, on Twitter, Aaronson responded to warm wishes from fans and wrote, "I'm just glad it happened after I was done giving my forecast." And who was behind the surprising gift? Aaronson later tweeted her thanks to local radio station Magic 98.5 for having the singing telegram sent. The interruption was a pretty awkward encounter, but at least it's not something that happens every day.

Would you ever send a singing telegram? Who would you send it to, and when?
