The Web Reacts To Gadhafi’s Strange American Crush, a 3-Foot-Long Rat Found In Brooklyn, and A Bridesmaid Goes Virtual

File this first story under, "Strange things found in a dictator's lair." During the ransacking of Moammar Gadhafi's compound in Libya, rebels uncovered a photo album filled with images of an famous American woman. She's none other than former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. In 2008, Rice shared a post-Ramadan dinner with Gadhafi in the very same compound where the scrapbook was found. Gadhafi's admiration of Rice is no secret. During a 2007 interview with Al jazeera , the embattled leader gushed, "Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her and I'm proud of her." On Twitter, one person asked, "if Condi can do better," and another wondered whether she has a pending Facebook friend request from the Libyan dictator.

From weird to weirder. I wish this wasn't true but a 3-foot-long rat was found and killed in a public housing complex in Brooklyn, New York (random fact: it's the complex where rapper Jay-Z grew up). The image of the humongous white rat has gone viral, leaving people (myself included) in disbelief and disgust. Housing Authority worker Jose Rivera told the New York Daily News that when he was clearing a rat hole, three of the gargantuan rodents scurried out. Rivera was only able to nab one, and needed a giant pitchfork to kill it. Members of the housing complex said there have been sitings of the enormous rats for at least six years. Wildlife Conservation Society expert told the Daily News that creature was likely Gambian Pouched rat, which can be the size of a small dog. The expert suspects the rat was a discarded or escaped pet, even though importing Gambian Pouched rats was outlawed in the U.S. a decade ago after causing an outbreak of money-pox that infected 100 people. When asked of the super-sized discovery, one area resident said, "they're so big, they should charge them rent." On Twitter one person wrote, "...and people are so proud to live in the boroughs lol." Alright we want to leave things on a good note: thanks to modern technology, one bridesmaid was able to attend her best friend's wedding despite the fact that she couldn't actually make it. When Renee Armstrong couldn't afford the flight from Virginia to Colorado to attend Jonathan Alberico and Jamie Wilborn's wedding, she turned to Apple for help. Using the company's "Facetime" application, which allows two-way video communication on iPhones and iPads, Armstrong found a way to technically attend the event. She even walked down the aisle! Well actually her groomsman carried an iPad that Armstrong appeared on as he walked down the aisle (here's the video). Armstrong said she got teary-eyed, which may not have happened if she just saw the pictures.
