Prankster Appears on Morning Shows as Terrible Chef

A prankster posed as an expert chef and took advantage of a few unsuspecting Midwest morning TV shows. The result yielded live TV segments that you would expect to see in “Anchorman.”

Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher, co-creators of the Found Footage Festival, are behind the joke. Prueher posed as “Chef Keith Guerke,” the author of “Leftovers Right: Making a Winner of Last Night’s Dinner.” Both the chef and book are completely made up. The fake chef appeared on five different morning shows in Wisconsin and Illinois to promote his book and methods for repurposing leftovers. All of the segments aired during the holidays.

Some of Chef Keith’s famed dishes include mashed potatoes and gravy on an ice cream cone, a blended concoction of ham, green beans, gravy and corn, and another mix of milk, pumpkin pie and whipped cream.

The make-believe leftovers expert also dropped made-up statistics on the air. He claimed that over the course of a year, the average person eats a pound and a half of feces. The anchor responded with, “Yeah, that’s really strange.”

He also claimed that the suicide rate is higher between Thanksgiving and Christmas because of the stress involving leftover food.

According to Deadspin, Prueher and Pickett said it wasn't tough to make it onto the five stations. As if the mixes of leftovers weren’t stomach-churning enough, the duo revealed that the food used was actually a day old and came from Kentucky Fried Chicken.

This is not Prueher and Pickett’s first brush with TV pranks and viral fame. The jokesters are the same people behind “Yo-Yo Expert” Kenny "K-Strass" Strasser. Similar to the fake chef, the fake yo-yo champ ended up on a number of TV shows, despite not knowing a single trick.
