NYPD Releases Amazing Video of Superstorm Sandy Rooftop Helicopter Rescue

The recovery process and rebuilding effort from superstorm Sandy is just beginning. Even as late as Tuesday, after major flooding, stranded New Yorkers had to be rescued from their homes.

As the waters rose in parts of Staten Island, New York, some residents were unable to evacuate and were trapped. During a search-and-rescue mission performed by the New York Police Department, Helicopter 23 rescued one child and five adults. Helicopter 23 is named after the 23 New York police officers who were killed during the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.

Video of the rescue, which does not have any audio, was uploaded to the NYPD's YouTube page Wednesday morning.
