Macklemore is a chart topping musician with adoring fans all over the world. And when his tour rolled into Utah last Saturday, fans were thrilled to see him walking around outside of the Maverik Center. The only thing was, it wasn’t Macklemore. Instead it was Salt Lake City-based comedian Andrew Hales, a Macklemore look-a-like and prankster. Hales is part of the YouTube prank group LAHWF. In a recent video he is seen dressed up like Macklemore and heading down to the Maverik Center with his LAHWF entourage in tow.
Fans went crazy, creating crowds around Hales and snapping pictures of and with him. Not only were fans duped, but Hales even got interviewed by a radio station outside of the venue.
Next, Hales tried to get past Maverik Center security for entry to the show and it actually worked! The shocked and excited entourage walked into the venue and into a bathroom. After Maverik Center management had a few minutes to realize what was going on, they kicked Hales and his crew out.
This wasn’t the first time a celebrity’s fans got faked out by pranksters. The radio show “Mojo in the Morning” brought Ryan Gosling’s doppelganger “Doug” around the streets of Detroit where mayhem ensued:
