Interview with Math Teacher Making Learning Fun with Homemade Rap Videos

On Monday we featured a video by Jake Scott, a high school math teacher in Silver Spring, Maryland, who creates rap songs to help his students process complex precalculus concepts. Under the name "2 Pi," Jake has written, produced, and uploaded to YouTube elaborate videos that address the Pythagorean theorem, the quadratic formula, and the ins and outs of triangles. His latest, titled "Undefined Expressions," tackles zero denominators.

In this episode, we speak to Jake about what it's been like to see his videos go viral, how he got his 3-year-old daughter to explain math concepts on camera, and his plans to take his music to the next level.
